Women’s Performance Squad Head Coach
St Albans HC Oaklands College Campus, St Albans, Hertfordshire.St Albans HC formed in 1898, is a thriving, friendly and ambitious club, supporting playing, spectating, coaching and officiating activities for all levels and ages. We currently run 18 teams for men and women, with 350+ senior members and 400+ youth members. We also run summer hockey, holiday camps and disability hockey. We are a Talent Certified.
We are seeking a passionate Performance Head Coach who will be responsible for leading all aspects of coaching, performance and player development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver high-quality training sessions that focus on technical, tactical development and strength and conditioning. Prepare the team for competitive matches, including pre-match analysis and strategy development and feedback.
- Foster a positive and high-performance culture. Develop individual player skills through tailored coaching and feedback, including video analysis and data analysis. Work closely with the club’s wider coaching team to create a pathway for talent progression for youth players.
- Manage squad selection and ensure clear communication with players. Work proactively with the 2nd team coach and provide input to selection of the team, working closely with the captain/coach to provide feedback to the players. Build strong relationships with players, club staff and stakeholders. Work with and mentor the 2nd team coach.
- Analyse match performance using video and data to inform coaching decisions. Identify areas for improvement and implement targeted development plans.
Remuneration: This is a paid role with opportunities to earn extra through Leading Youth and Adult Coaching sessions. Details of which are available on request.
Commitment: Attend and deliver performance squad training on a Tuesday and Thursday evening and the league match at the weekend. Occasional attendance at youth training to support player development.
Skills and Qualities Required:
- Minimum England Hockey Level 2 Coaching qualification (or equivalent), Level 3 preferred.
- Experience coaching at a high-performance level
- Strong understanding of modern hockey tactics and player development strategies
- Proven ability to implement effective training programmes and match strategies
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
- Ability to motivate and manage players in a competitive environment
